On Normal Subgroups of Coxeter Groups Generated by Standard Parabolic Subgroups´swiatosław
We discuss one construction of nonstandard subgroups in the category of Coxeter groups. Two formulae for the growth series of such a subgroups are given. As an application we construct a flag simple convex polytope, whose f-polynomial has non-real roots. Introduction The central object of this paper is the growth series of a Coxeter group. Many geometric features of such a group (or any group i...
متن کاملNORMAL SUBGROUPS OF GLn(D) ARE NOT FINITELY GENERATED
As a generalization of Wedderburn’s classic theorem, it is shown that the multiplicative group of a noncommutative finite dimensional division algebra cannot be finitely generated. Also, the following conjecture is investigated: An infinite non-central normal subgroup of GLn(D) cannot be finitely generated.
متن کاملClosed Subgroups Generated by Generic Measure Automorphisms
We prove that for a generic measure preserving transformation T , the closed group generated by T is a continuous homomorphic image of a closed linear subspace of L0(λ,R), where λ is Lebesgue measure, and that the closed group generated by T contains an increasing sequence of finite dimensional toruses whose union is dense.
متن کاملFINITE p-GROUPS WHICH ARE NOT GENERATED BY THEIR NON-NORMAL SUBGROUPS
Here we classify finite non-Dedekindian p-groups which are not generated by their non-normal subgroups. (Theorem 1). The purpose of this paper is to classify non-Dedekindian finite p-groups which are not generated by their non-normal subgroups. It is surprising that such p-groups must be of class 2 with a cyclic commutator subgroup. We consider here only finite p-groups and our notation is stan...
متن کاملSubgroups of Polynomial Automorphisms
Throughout this paper, k will denote a commutative ring containing the rational numbers Q, and k = k[x{, . . . , xn] will be the polynomial ring over k . If ƒ : k —• k is a polynomial map (i.e., a fc-algebra homomorphism), then ƒ is a polynomial automorphism provided there is an inverse ƒ " which is also a polynomial map. Very little is known about the group of polynomial automorphisms, and ind...
